Typical servers in the data center contain a BMC processor for remote management running proprietary firmware stacks. As the capabilities of BMC based hardware has grown so has the demands placed on those firmware stacks both in cost and complexity. The OpenBMC's goal is to provide a common, fully supported Open Source server management platform. Achieving this goal allows OpenCompute member companies to reduce the pains of BMC development and more easily unleash your developers focus on what really brings value to your business. This talk will explore what the project is, how you can contribute and what it can provide as a base for your OpenCompute servers.

Power Systems Firmware, IBM
I help to develop the firmware features and functions for IBM's Power Systems. Currently I, along with a community of others are developing the OpenBMC Project. Our goal is to make a completely open and upstreamed embedded linux distribution.
